Destiny Academy - Kalwang “Diamond In The Rough

Why invest in Destiny Academy?

For a number of years, the Uganda Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development has considered developing a commercial nuclear power program and infrastructure for the country. In fact, we believe that one day a nuclear engineer could originate from Destiny Academy (located in rural Kalwang a community in Nebbi, Uganda) and support the envisioned commercial nuclear industry there and beyond. Currently, Kalwang is characterized by high illiteracy, the prevalence of physical child labor and pregnancies before the age of 15. We agree with Destiny Academy that preschool foundational education such as reading, writing and arithmetic is prerequisite and fundamental to any formal education and a key success factor to addressing the current situation in Kalwang.

Founded in early 2024 by Minister Stephen Thokwiny, Destiny Academy has grown to over 100 children within a six-month period of time. The school is in desperate need of supplies and teachers. Currently, Destiny has two teachers (as of June 2024) who receive salaries of less than $100/month.

Consistent with Charles Harper Charities’ core values (to position young people to challenge their limitations and consequently harvest a lifetime of achievement), we support and invest in Destiny Academy. We believe this will be an opportunity and vehicle for Kalwang children to harvest successes as future academics and engineering professionals especially nuclear engineers.
